Kinder Morgan Maintenance Workers Injured in Gas Line Rupture at Corpus Christi Refinery
A gas-line rupture at a Corpus Christi refinery led to the closure of Up River Road and McBride Lane and prompted a shelter-in-place order, 3NEWS reported last week.
Corpus Christi City Manager Peter Zanoni told 3NEWS that the natural gas leak occurred on private property on May 30 where Kinder Morgan was conducting maintenance work on a 16-inch pipeline. Zanoni mentioned that two employees sustained minor injuries due to the incident.
When 3NEWS crews arrived at the scene around 3:20 p.m., the gas leak was still visible.
Authorities issued a shelter-in-place order for residents on Golla Drive, Manchester Avenue, Donna Drive, and Vernon Drive in the Northwest area of Corpus Christi. Those in close proximity to the leak were evacuated as a precaution.
Zanoni confirmed that the leak was nearly resolved by approximately 6 p.m., according to 3NEWS.
