Navigator Gas, Bumi Armada, Bluestreak CO2 Partner with Uniper for UK CO2 Export Study
(P&GJ) — Navigator Holdings Ltd. and Bumi Armada Berhad have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Uniper (UK) Ltd. to explore CO2 export solutions for the proposed Grain Carbon Capture project in the U.K.
The MoU outlines plans to develop a jetty-moored floating CO2 storage facility and carrier system. This partnership aims to establish a comprehensive CO2 value chain, including shuttle tankers and storage units, to transport and store captured CO2 from Uniper’s Grain site. The CO2 will be injected into offshore storage sites, ensuring safe and reliable transport and storage.
Uniper's U.K. Country Chair, Mike Lockett, emphasized the project's role in helping meet the UK’s 2030 decarbonization goals. The Grain power station, known for its efficiency, could see retrofitted carbon capture technology removing millions of tonnes of CO2. This initiative will be crucial for facilities without pipeline access.
Navigator Gas CEO Mads Peter Zacho and Bumi Armada CEO Gary Christenson highlighted their commitment to designing sustainable CO2 shipping and storage solutions. They anticipate finalizing the Bluestreak CO2 joint venture agreements by late 2024, pending regulatory approvals and board approvals.
