Gazprom Raises Capacity Requests for Gas Flows Via Ukraine
MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian gas group Gazprom has raised its additional transportation capacity requests for gas exports to Europe through Ukraine in January, based on trading platform data.
Data from the Hungarian Regional Booking Platform showed the Ukrainian gas transportation operator has sold 41.2 MMcm/d of pipeline capacity to Gazprom at an auction for transportation of gas via the Sudzha shipment point at the Russia/Ukraine border for January.
For December, Gazprom had booked 11.4 MMcm of additional capacity per day and 10.27 MMcm/d in November.
Moscow and Kyiv last year signed a new deal for Russian gas transportation to Europe via Ukraine, a major route for Gazprom’s gas exports, for 2020-2024.
Ukraine energy company Naftogaz said in October that Gazprom had asked it about booking more capacity to transport gas to Europe, a sign Gazprom was worried that U.S. sanctions are targeting its Nord Stream 2 pipeline project to avoid Ukraine.
Gazprom had already booked 65 Bcm of capacity for gas exports via Ukraine in 2020.
