Explorer Pipeline to Proceed with North Dallas Expansion
(P&GJ) — Explorer Pipeline Company announced a successful open season and board approval of an expansion project to provide transportation services from points of origin on the U.S. Gulf Coast to a new delivery facility near Melissa, Texas – north of Dallas.
Tulsa-based Explorer said the expansion will support new product movements on its system into the North Dallas area. A new terminal is planned for construction at the terminus of the expansion project near Melissa, to be owned and operated by U.S. Oil, according to an earlier announcement.
The 1,830-mile Explorer system is a common carrier pipeline that transports gasoline, diesel, fuel oil and jet fuel from the Port Arthur area of the Texas Gulf Coast to the upper Midwest. Through its connections with other refined petroleum products pipelines, it serves more than 70 major cities in 16 states, including such key markets as Houston, Dallas, Tulsa, St. Louis and Chicago.
Its southern system has a current capacity of 660,000 bpd, and the northern system has a capacity of 450,000 barrels per day.
Explorer is owned by Phillips66, Marathon, Sunoco Logistics and Shell.
