P&GJ Attends PTC, Tours Pipeline-Related Facilities in Europe
In an ongoing effort to expand Pipeline & Gas Journal’s global coverage, Publisher Brian Nessen and Managing Editor Michael Reed visited Europe last week to get a first-hand look at a few facilities and attend a conference.
While in Germany they attended the 13th annual Pipeline Technology Conference held March 12-14 in Berlin, where more than 600 delegates viewed exhibits and attended seminars on inspection technologies, which provided an in-depth introduction to the importance of pipeline inspection and integrity management.
A risk assessment and management seminar addressed natural hazards and explored the need for qualitative and quantitative risk assessment in relation to route selection and pipeline integrity. Mitigation and monitoring techniques were also examined during the event.
The next day, Nessen and Reed headed west to Goor, The Netherlands, to visit Maats Pipeline Equipment, which specializes in pipe bending machines, pipe layers and other related equipment. COO Gerald Kroeze and Sales Manager Michael Mertes conducted a tour of the facility and talked about their a recently completed project in Turkey.
A tour of ROSEN’s facility in Lingen, Germany, was next on the itinerary. The continuously growing company employs over 1,000 at the this location, which contains a new testing and calibration hall for development of new technologies. A neighboring testing field examines the inspection devices prior to delivery. The tour was conducted by ROSEN’s Jorn Wunderlich, Anna Heskamp and Sabine Reifig.
In Stutensee, Germany, NDT Global’s Marketing Communication Manager Ute Hillemacher oversaw a tour of the company’s facility, which included a look at the assembly of pigging equipment and the development of dedicated inspection tools and technologies that enable operators to find solutions to fit their needs.
