Shell Pipeline Sets Open Season for Northeast Ethane Common Carrier

Shell Pipeline Company will launch a binding open season for transportation commitments on a 94-mile common carrier ethane supply pipeline, which will be constructed in Southwestern Pennsylvania and extend into West Virginia and Ohio. Construction of the pipeline is scheduled to begin in late 2018.

The pipeline will be located where more than 70% of the North American polyethylene market sits, within a 700-mile radius of Pittsburgh. Shell Pipeline anticipates the proposed Falcon Ethane Pipeline System will connect three major ethane source points within Pennsylvania and Ohio, in the rich gas portions of the Marcellus and Utica shale reservoirs, to a petrochemical plant in Monaca, PA.

Falcon’s initial pipeline capacity is 107,000 bpd of ethane. If shipper demand exceeds this, the capacity will be expanded sufficiently to accommodate committed volumes, plus at least 10% for spot shipments.

The binding open season begins at 8 a.m. (CST) Oct.17 and will continue until 5 p.m. (CST) Nov 18.
