Vermont Regulators Approve Pipeline Through Park

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) – Vermont state regulators have cleared away a final hurdle for a gas pipeline that’s already under construction. Some residents of Hinesburg had been trying to block the construction of the Addison Natural Gas Expansion Project through Gaprags Park in the town.
But on Tuesday, the state Public Service Board granted the company’s request for eminent domain.
The company says the ruling will enable it to finish construction of the pipeline from Chittenden County to Middlebury this year and begin service to customers.
The Public Service Board first approved the project nearly three years ago. Since then, activists have been trying to stop it, saying it will increase Vermont’s reliance on climate-damaging fossil fuel.
