N.J. Court Dismisses Trespassing Lawsuit Against PennEast
A New Jersey State Superior Court judge on July 7 rejected a lawsuit filed by HALT, an association of New Jersey landowners, and several of its individual members, that sought to prevent the PennEast Pipeline from being built.
The $1 billion underground pipeline will span the 118-miles between Dallas, in northeast Pennsylvania, and a Transco pipeline interconnection, near Pennington, N.J. It will consist primarily of 36-inch pipe, according to PennEast.
“We respect the rights of every landowner, and have worked tirelessly to engage in a respectful dialogue that has, in many instances, resulted in modifications to the route and reduced landowner impacts,” said PennEast spokeswoman Pat Kornick. “Unfortunately, some outside interests are willing to say or do anything to mislead the public. We’re pleased the Court agreed with PennEast and dismissed the claims.”
According to Spectra, which holds a 10% interest in the project, its peak capacity will be 1 Bcf/d and completion is targeted for November 2017. The pipeline is under review by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which has final say over whether it can be built.
