Offshore News: McDermott Awarded 12 Jacket Order for Saudi Fields
McDermott International, Inc. was awarded a large brownfield contract by Saudi Aramco for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of twelve jackets for offshore oil and gas fields in Saudi Arabian waters. Engineering and procurement is expected to be performed by McDermott’s teams in Dubai, and Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. The jackets are scheduled for fabrication by McDermott’s Dubai, U.A.E.-based fabrication facility.
Trelleborg Provides Floatover Tech for West Africa Project
Trelleborg’s engineered products operation completed its supply of floatover equipment for Phase 3 of the DSO Escravos gas project, the operation’s first floatover in West Africa. Contracted by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), Trelleborg provided Leg Mating Unit (LMU) pads for the floatover process, as well as surge fenders, shock pads and rubs trips to constitute the project’s boat landing systems.
SM Lee, Section Chief of Engineering Group at HHI, said: “Sea conditions are particularly rough in this region, meaning that the installation had to be very precise and the timeframe in which the floatover process could be conducted, would be minimal. We needed a solution that could handle the challenging environments, preventing the jacket and topside from being damaged during installation.”
Tata Steel is celebrating after becoming the first company to manufacture a SAWL (submerged arc welded longitudinal) line pipe installed through reeling method in the North Sea. Manufactured at Tata Steel’s Hartlepool 42-inch UOE mill, the pipe was developed for an international energy company which required an urgent replacement pipeline.
Working closely with the end client and lay contractor, the project had a demanding specification which provided a new challenge for all parties.
Tata Steel used some of the best pipe plate available to produce a product which both increased the maximum thickness that can be produced for a 16-inch pipe, and re-established the reel-ability of SAWL pipe. Due to the success the product is now being launched into the wider market.
Brazil to Hold 13th Block Auction Before Year-End
Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy, Eduardo Braga, has announced details on Brazil’s 13th bid round for oil and gas exploration with 269 blocks located outside the pre-salt area to be auctioned in the last quarter of the year. Any interested company that meets the requirements will be able to bid without the need for an association with a Brazilian partner.
Braga said the Bid Round would be “an opportunity for enterprises to increase their participation in, or enter, the Brazilian market. Mature areas will be offered, as well as new frontiers with great potential.”
Wood Group Supports Oil Spill Containment Projects
Wood Group Kenny has a five-year contract with Oil Spill Response (Capping) Ltd. (OSRCL) to provide maintenance support for a part of a containment toolkit to control hydrocarbon release in the event of a subsea well control incident.
The project will see WGK work with OSRCL to ensure the flexible flowlines included in the toolkit are continuously in a condition suitable for immediate load out if mobilized by subscribing oil and gas operators. This will include maintenance management, recommendations for preservation, inspection and testing of all ancillary and lifting equipment, as well as the flexible flowlines, stored at sites in the UK, Singapore and Brazil.
This contract builds on Wood Group’s capability in this area. Wood Group Mustang recently completed engineering services for two Marine Well Containment Company (MWCC) vessels that can be deployed in the event of a deepwater well control incident in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
Neptune Wins Inspection Contract off PNG
Neptune was awarded a five-year offshore diving and subsea inspection services contract by Oil Search (PNG) Limited, in Papua New Guinea. Diving works will be performed from a client-supplied vessel or facility and for the duration of the contract Neptune equipment will be permanently held in PNG, at the Oil Search base in Port Moresby.
The work will focus primarily on the Kumul Marine Terminal, the oil export pipeline and CALM buoy with the option to include other Oil Search assets.
Agreement Gives Seatronics Access to Leak Detection System
Seatronics, an Acteon company, signed a rental agreement with Neptune Oceanographics giving it access to Neptune’s range of subsea pipeline, riser and control leak detection systems globally.
Neptune offers four leak-detection methods – fluorescence (long range), passive acoustics, differential temperature and gaseous hydrocarbon detection – for both pipeline systems and seabed leakage. Long-range submersible fluorometers provide the unique solution of leak detection without the need to pass through the leaking fluid.
