STATS Claims Record Diameter for Subsea Pipeline Intervention

(P&GJ) — Pipeline technology specialist STATS Group has been commissioned to complete a range of work in the Asian Gulf that is believed to include a record subsea intervention on a 56-inch pipeline.
The scope of work will include the hot-tapping and double block-and-bleed isolation of multiple pipelines with diameters ranging from 42 inches up to 56 inches.
“We believe this project to be a first in the world,” said Mark Gault, STATS Group’s General Manager Middle East. “As far as we are aware, there have been no other subsea intervention projects of this complexity or scale that involve subsea isolations on pipelines of 56 inches in diameter.”
The project is the result of STATS Group’s long-term commitment to support localization in the Gulf region. The company employs more than 80 people and have facilities in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Muscat, Oman and Doha, Qatar.
Commissioned by the National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC), the U.K.-headquartered company said it will rely on its SureTap hot-tapping machines and BISEP technology to perform the work.
