Obituary: Donald Thorn

Donald Thorn

Donald William Thorn, 69, died Aug. 3 at his home in Perrysburg, Ohio, where he lived with his wife of 45 years, Judy (White) Thorn. He had recently retired after a lengthy career in the pipeline industry.

Thorn, a native of Vina, Ala., was born to William E. and Oniece W. (Lindley) Thorn on June 27, 1949. He graduated as valedictorian of Vina High School when he was 16 and went on to attend the University of Alabama, earning a degree in aerospace engineering.

His long career included an 18-month period in Nigeria and culminated with him serving as president of Welded Construction. He served on many professional and service group boards during his career, including the Board of Directors for the Pipe Line Contractors Association, the PLCA Labor Committee and as president of the Kiwanis of Perrysburg.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Thorn; two sons, Michael Thorn (Amanda Warren) and Matthew Thorn (Ashley Thorn); a daughter, Jessi Robertson (Tom Robertson); a sister, Cathy (Larry) Vickery; and five grandchildren, Haley, Sophia, Evan, Addie Robertson and Kaelee A. Keaster. P&GJ
