IPLOCA’s 50th Anniversary Convention – A Return to Our Origins

By Atul Punj, IPLOCA President 2015-2016

This year’s special convention will be a return to IPLOCA’s origins, taking place in Paris where the association was first established on 20 June 1966. What better place to celebrate than in the City of Light, soaked in its own history!

At the IPLOCA annual convention, during a series of technical sessions, meetings and social events and tours, senior executives from the pipeline industry, accompanied by their spouses, will build relationships, network and share ideas with their peers from over 40 countries. This convention promises to be particularly memorable, as several surprising venues await us. We look forward to an exciting week filled with opportunities to meet with old and new friends and network with business contacts.

During the Open General Meetings, our high-profile speakers will focus on shared experiences of projects undertaken and future large projects in North America, Latin America and Europe, new technologies and trends in the current economic environment. We will be announcing the students selected to receive the first IPLOCA scholarships, and will be releasing the mobile app of the 4th edition of the best practices book “The Road to Success.”

Alongside the annual IPLOCA Health & Safety Award, sponsored by Chevron, a new biennial award will be presented for the first time in Paris, the IPLOCA Excellence in Project Execution Award, in recognition of an outstanding project execution in onshore or offshore pipeline, or facilities construction.

A 50th anniversary book is being created to honour the 50 presidents and board members of the association, containing personalised drawings linked to the city the convention was held in and the president of that year.

When creating the tour program, we selected some of the best-known sites and most popular attractions, with visits to the impressive monuments of Paris that have witnessed history in the making over the last five centuries. These include a full day at Chantilly castle, one of France’s finest cultural jewels, a full day tour to the palace of Versailles, which has been featured on the World Heritage List for 30 years, and visits to the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Orsay museums and the village of Montmartre.

Our hotel, Le Méridien Etoile, is strategically located to appeal to business travelers and art-lovers alike, in the 17th District just a few minutes’ walk from the Champs-Elysées. We are also pleased to say that following enthusiastic feedback from last year’s convention in Singapore, a smartphone application will again be available for this event.

We are expecting a high level of attendance at this special anniversary event and would like to particularly thank our sponsors – regular and new – who have once again demonstrated their support and without whom this event would not be possible.
