New Facility Expedites Pipelay System Construction

The construction of a production facility in Schiedam, The Netherlands, by Huisman offers the largest indoor lifting capacity in Europe – 1,200 metric tons – and allows for fast installation, commission and testing of several products and systems, including five newly built pipelay systems.

The pipelay systems at the Huisman Schiedam quayside include an 800-metric ton multi-lay system for Ezra’s Lewek Constellation, a 275-metric ton vertical-lay system for Ceona’s Polar Onyx, a 150-metric ton vertical-lay system for (VARD) Ocean Installer’s Normand Vision and a portable 150-metric ton vertical-lay system for Technip.

An additional 550-metric ton tiltable-lay system for Subsea 7 has been installed onboard the Seven Waves which is at the Huisman Schiedam quayside and is planned to depart for sea trials shortly.

According to Huisman, the pipelay systems for the Ocean Installer and Technip will be installed at other yards, while the installation on the Polar Onyx and Lewek Constellation will be installed by Huisman in March and July. Next to the five systems on the quayside, another 10 pipelay systems are under construction.
