Worlds First Subsea Wet Gas Compressor Nears Completion

Statoil is waiting final testing before preparing for the installation and hook-up in the North Sea of the world’s first subsea wet gas compressor station to the Gullfaks C platform next year. The compressor station consists of two 5-MW wet gas compressors that will be installed in a subsea template at 135-meter depth. They will be tied in to existing templates and pipelines 15 km from the Gullfaks C platform.

Developed in cooperation with One Subsea (formerly Framo Engineering), One Subsea provided a 420-ton protective structure, a compressor station with two compressors totaling 650 tons and all necessary topsides equipment for power supply and control of the plant.

The compressor station has been mechanically commissioned and test-assembled and is teady for the final system integration tests implemented by One Subsea. This last test phase will verify that all units of the subsea compressor station work as expected. The subsea compressor station is designed to add 22 MMboe from the Gullfaks South Brent reservoir to extend the field’s productive life.
