Battelle Opens Office In Houston

Battelle, the world’s leading independent research and development organization, expanded its position in the oil and gas industry by opening an office at 10777 Westheimer Road, Suite 1100, Houston, TX 77042 (713) 260-9640.

The office is led by led by two experts in the industry, John Bickham and Torrance Haggerty. Bickham is a Principal Scientist for Battelle with expertise in molecular population, evolutionary genetics and cytogenetics. His work will center on determining genetic effects of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination on marine organisms and ecology.

Bickham most recently served as director for the Center for the Environment at Purdue University’s Discovery Park where he pioneered the use of flow cytometry as a biomarker to detect chromosomal damage from pollutant exposure and in the application of molecular population genetics in the field of evolutionary toxicology. He has been a member of the U.S. delegation to the International Whaling Commission for the past decade.

Haggerty, a geophysicist with diverse expertise in seismic data processing and geophysical operations, is a program leader who will grow and manage Battelle’s oil and gas programs. He has worked extensively with government agency officials to develop exploration and exploitation opportunities using advanced technologies and research. He came to Battelle from Schlumberger and private consulting work.
