What's New

July 2013 New Products & Services

New products and services for the pipeline industry, from Moyno, International Society of Automation, Cubility and more.

Moyno, a unit of Robbins and Myer
Moyno Progressing Cavity Pumps are capable of handling clean, clear liquids as well as thick, abrasive, and corrosive fluids and slurries, even with viscosities over 1,000,000 cps. The product line includes models capable of generating flow rates up to 2,500 gpm and pressures to 2,100 psi. A progressing cavity design results in a gentle, low-shear discharge, while a pulsation-free flow rate improves metering capabilities. The pumps are typically used for drilling mud, crude or heavy oil transfer, chemical injection, water injection or multi-phase fluid transfer. 1-877-4UMOYNO, www.moyno.com.

International Society of Automation (ISA)
The International Society of Automation has introduced a new course, Process Safety Fundamentals (EC50CT), on leading process safety concepts, standards and procedures. The course accentuates the need to regard process safety as a fundamental daily priority. Process safety focuses on preventing significant industrial accidents, such as fires, explosions and chemical releases, in facilities dealing with hazardous materials. In addition to explaining the purpose and value of ISA84 standards, the course covers legal requirements, reveals how to determine and manage safety risks, emphasizes the importance of maintenance in the operational phase, discusses the differences between various industry-applicable standards and serves as a preparatory course for a more advanced ISA offering. 919-549-8411, info@isa.org , www.isa.org/PR13/EC50CT.

Cubility
 width=
Cubility’s MudCube is a compact, fully closed smart mud treatment system that reduces the fluid adhesion on cuttings by 90%. This eliminates emissions and reduces vibration and noise. The system’s vacuum conveyor system allows the technology to operate cleanly and safely without the high g-forces, degradation of cuttings and fluid vapor pollution associated with conventional technology. www.cubility.com.

Climax Portable Machining & Welding Systems
The Climax VM9000 heavy-duty portable valve repair system permits operators to repair globe valves from 14 to 30 inches in diameter. The system will grind and machine pressure-seal bores and valve seats, and is designed for quick and easy set-up. Operators can switch from single-point machining to grinding in minutes, and the grinding head produces a 16 Ra finish, assuring LLRT passage. The system includes two separate power sources: a compact hydraulic motor that provides low-speed torque for precise control of the rotational drive, and two precision pneumatic drive systems that provide power for the axial feed system and for the accessory grinding attachment. The pneumatic system has been designed to protect the operator from coming into contact with potentially contaminated particles that may be formed during the valve repair process.www.climaxportable.com.

Emerson
Emerson Process Management’s DeltaV digital automation system and its project and engineering support services have passed annual best practice standards set by Wurldtech Security Technologies for responding to increased global cyber-security threats. Building on industry security requirements set by the International Instrument Users Association, the program was created to independently certify that manufacturer policies and practices meet and exceed these requirements. http://www.emersonprocess.com.

Rupture Pin Technology
Rupture Pin Technology has created a nylon valve for applications requiring a plastic relief valve for corrosion resistance or a lightweight valve to handle over-pressure protection. The valve can be designed to sense upstream, downstream or differential pressure, as well as low and pulsating pressure. The pin buckles at a specific pressure with a standard accuracy of +/-5%. The valve’s operation can be determined either visually or remotely by using a proximity switch. The pin is external to the flow and the line does not need be opened in order to change the pin. Pin replacement can be accomplished within seconds. www.rupturepin.com.

Environmental Gasket Co. Ltd.
Kammprofile, jacketed and corrugated gaskets are now available from Environmental Gasket Co. Kammprofile gaskets are semi-metallic gaskets that can be used for applications from low to very high pressure. The gaskets consist of a metal core with corrugated grooves and a soft layer of sealing material bonded to either face. The corrugated metal core is a very effective seal in applications where high temperatures, high pressures and fluctuating conditions exist, especially at high seating loads. Jacketed gaskets are made with a metal jacket enclosed over a high-temperature soft filler. These gaskets are widely used for heat exchangers, valves and pumps. Corrugated gaskets are designed with a corrugated metallic core enclosing soft compressed sealing material. They are widely used in severe applications involving extreme environments and thermal cycles. egc@environmentalgasket.com, www.environmentalgasket.com.

Paradigm Flow Services
Paradigm Flow Services has developed software to model pipelines for its Pipe-Pulse system, which remediates pipeline blockages using pressure pulses. The STATIS software can build detailed models of pipelines or umbilicals, including components such as flexible risers. This allows the company to determine the optimum amplitude pulse to be used, and calculate the generated stress within the pipeline walls. The software is used to optimize setup, track the effectiveness of operations and generate reports. Comparisons can be made between an expected (modelled) response and the received response in real time. www.paradigmflow.com.

E. H. Wachs
E.H. Wachs has released four new videos on its YouTube channel, highlighting products and tools designed to help project managers, welding contractors and field machinists estimate production times, specify products and learn pipe cutting, beveling, and weld prep best practices. One video features methods to calculate estimates when bidding on a pipe maintenance or pipe repair job. Another demonstrates machines in the field and discusses the benefits of using cold cutting equipment and simultaneous cutting and beveling. A third exhibits machining methods, applications, weld preps and benefits of using cold cutting (machining) versus torch cutting and grinding for weld preps.

Pioneer Energy Services
Pioneer Energy Services has begun testing trucks powered by compressed natural gas and has received delivery of its first vehicle. The bi-fuel truck is a 2013 Chevrolet 2500HD 4X4 Extended Cab able to run on both gasoline and CNG. The truck starts with a gasoline engine but then switches automatically to run on CNG. When the truck runs out of CNG, the engine switches back to run on gasoline. The company cited availability of CNG fueling stations in the Houston area and the $1.99 per gallon equivalent cost of CNG fuel as a rationale for the effort. The company is also testing natural gas capable engines on three of its drilling rigs, estimating that it could save $700,000 per year per rig by using a blend of natural gas and diesel fuel, while reducing emissions by 70%. www.pioneeres.com.
