China Looking To Join TAPI Pipeline

The Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline, a decade-old gas transit project, may soon add China to the mix in a move that has surprised Washington lawmakers.

Afghan leaders met with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) officials about the proposed transit pipeline, as well as oil and gas exploration by CNPC in Afghanistan’s north. The Afghans hailed the pipeline and the exploration project as important to Afghanistan’s stability and development and agreed to set up a joint working committee with the Chinese.
