DNV GL Updates RP for Free-Spanning Pipelines

Offshore pipeline spans, due to uneven seabed or seabed erosion processes, can require huge and costly seabed interventions. The DNV GL recommended practice (RP) on free-spanning pipelines has been widely applied in industry to solve the problems related to free spans in pipeline design and operation. The RP has now been updated with project and research experience from the last decade on free-span dynamic response, particularly on structural modeling. Identifying Girth Weld Cracking Threats in CRA Cladded Pipes

In 2013, a new gas line with internal stainless steel CRA cladding experienced a failure. This 16-inch pipeline was commissioned early in the year and occasionally used. The failure consisted of circumferential cracking in a girth weld at a pipe bend. The investigation team recommended a complete inspection of all weld joints on this 6-miles (10-km) line. Harsco/Hammco Ships 100,000th ASME-Certified Cooler Section

Tulsa, OK-based Harsco Industrial Air-X-Changers/Hammco (HAXC/Hammco), a producer of cooling systems for natural gas compression and processing, oil refining and other applications, has reached a major milestone in shipping its 100,000th ASME-certified cooler section. The cooling section is a core component of an HAXC Model 156 EH cooler, a vertical-discharge, forced-draft cooler combining engine and compressor cooling in a single, compact unit. Case Study: Mexssub Repairs Leaking, Bent Pipeline in Gulf of Mexico

A leading oil and gas company engaged the Mexssub team in commercial discussions in May 2012. The company wanted to restore the mechanical integrity of a pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico. Dolphin-Inspired Sensors Improve Detection

Direct Pipe Technology Used to Install Gas Pipeline in Poland

Canadian Researchers Taking on Oil Pipeline Corrosion

A collaborative research project involving four universities in the Province of Alberta and Atlantic Canada has received major funding to address the issue of pipeline corrosion caused by microbial activity. The federal government announcement was made Dec. 8 by Minister of Science, Kirsty Duncan in Montreal.
