Nicor Gas Awards Contract for Meter Modernization Program
Nicor Gas, the largest natural gas distribution company in Illinois, has awarded Sensus, a Xylem brand, a technology contract for its Meter Modernization program. Nicor Gas serves 2.2 million customers in a service territory that encompasses most of the northern third of Illinois, excluding the city of Chicago.
“The Meter Modernization program is one of several investments we’re making to modernize and improve our natural gas infrastructure,” said Patrick Whiteside, vice president of Business Solutions at Nicor Gas. “Sensus’ advanced metering technology will help us ensure every customer’s energy needs are met safely now and well into the future.”
The utility will begin deployment of the Sensus FlexNet® communication network and radio modules for its natural gas meters this year.
“Our continued, aggressive investment in the gas market has enabled us to deliver comprehensive metrology and safety solutions including a robust, resilient and secure communication network,” said Colin Sabol, Senior Vice President and President, Xylem Measurement & Control Solutions. “We believe our focus on compelling solutions helps utilities make their business case for advanced metering technology through the benefits of better customer engagement, increased workplace safety and the use of data to help drive bottom-line results.”
