Rock Placement Contract Awarded for Nord Stream 2 Pipeline
A 50/50 joint venture between Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V and Van Oord has signed a Letter of Intent with Nord Stream 2 AG to provide rock placement services for the Nord Stream 2 project. The contract is worth approximately EUR 250 million, with details expected to be finalized in the next few weeks.
The scope of work includes the sourcing of rock from quarries in the Baltic region and is designed to level the seabed and protect the pipelines. Multiple specialized fallpipe vessels will be deployed to complete construction, which is expected to take place in 2018 and 2019.
The Nord Stream 2 Pipeline Project includes the construction of twin 1,200-kilometer gas pipelines running through the Baltic Sea that will connect Russia to Europe. The project is expected to be placed in service in 2019.
