Vermont Gas Places Pipeline in Service

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (AP) — Gas is now flowing through a new Vermont Gas pipeline that runs 41 miles from Colchester to Middlebury.

The company announced Wednesday that the long-delayed Addison Natural Gas Project is now serving customers in Middlebury and more customers will be added in other Addison County towns in the coming months.

Company officials say the first customers in Middlebury began receiving gas from the pipeline on Wednesday.

The $165 million project, which faced numerous protests during planning and construction, is still facing a legal challenge.

Last week, the Vermont Supreme Court heard arguments about whether Vermont Gas should have been allowed to run its line beneath Geprags Park in Hinesburg. Vermont Gas posted a bond to cover the cost of removing it from the area if it loses the case.
