Ruptured Gas Pipeline Sealed as Investigation Continues
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) – Sunoco Logistics announced Sunday night that the gas pipeline that ruptured during storms on Friday has been completely sealed on both sides.
The remaining gasoline inside the pipe has been cleared, and the 80 foot section of the pipe was removed Sunday evening.
Officials say there is no indication that water supplies have been affected. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection will continue to monitor the water.
Sunoco Logistics spokesman Jeff Shields said Saturday that officials haven’t seen much impact from the break that sent about 55,000 gallons of gasoline into a tributary of Loyalsock Creek.
The cause of the rupture remains under investigation.
The Friday storm dumped 7 inches of rain, sweeping away at least two homes. One man was killed.
