Deepwater Gulf Pipeline Begins Service Ahead of Schedule
Enbridge’s 20-inch, 58-km Heidelberg Oil Pipeline has been brought into service three months ahead of schedule. The Heidelberg Oil Pipeline is located in the Gulf of Mexico, 322 km southwest of New Orleans, and transports crude oil from Anadarko Petroleum Corp.’s Heidelberg development to a third-party pipeline system. The pipeline was laid in water depths of up to 1,600 meters. The pipeline is designed to transport up to 120,000 bpd of oil.
Enbridge’s Offshore Pipelines division now owns and operates 11 active natural gas-gathering and FERC-regulated transmission pipelines, and two active oil pipelines, connecting to deepwater developments in four major corridors of the Gulf of Mexico.
Enbridge expects to bring two additional deepwater oil pipelines into service in the Gulf of Mexico by 2018, the Big Foot Oil Pipeline and the Stampede Oil Pipeline. Enbridge transports 43% of total offshore natural gas production and 54% of deepwater natural gas production in the Gulf.
