FMC Technologies Measurement Solutions has released what it describes as its latest, most advanced technological tool in fluid measurement, the Smith Meter® Ultra 8c liquid ultrasonic flowmeter.
With its additional transducers and measurement paths, the Ultra 8c joins Measurement Solutions’ Ultra Series meters as what the company says are the most accurate and best-performing ultrasonic meter in the product line. Its linearity has been improved to +/-0.12% over a wider 15:1 flow turndown ratio over the standard measurement range, making it suitable for custody transfer applications for heavy, high viscosity crude oils.
The Ultra 8c also features state-of-the-art diagnostics capability, with onboard memory for historical data and a web-based interface with an easy-to-use touchscreen user interface. The Ultra 8c capabilities allow it to be used for remote monitoring, data storage and diagnostic analysis as part of an intelligent, networked control system.

The performance features of the Ultra 8c are supported by Measurement Solution’s Flow Research and Test Center, based at its Erie, PA, manufacturing facility. The ISO/IEC-accredited test center can simulate the widest range of flow conditions in the world, giving added assurance that the company’s new ultrasonic flowmeter performs at its optimal performance, even for the most difficult, high viscous applications.
The Smith Meter Ultra 8c has OIML R117-1 Accuracy Class 0.3 certifications, and is available in international markets where OIML certification is required.
