Sawyer Mfg. Co.
Sawyer Manufacturing Company has introduced the Grasshopper, a method of securing a ground for welding to prevent arc burn with a grounding clamp that grips a dedicated bolt. Shielding added throughout the device offers reinforcement against arcing outside of the main pin. The pin also makes brother-in-law welding on large-diameter pipe possible by allowing multiple welders to ground to the same device. Nylon-insulated magnets further prevent the risk of arcing where they connect vertically or horizontally to the pipe. The magnets also prevent stretching or slacking that may occur with other grounding attachment methods. 877-730-9149, sales@sawyermfg.com.

Kinyon Construction, Inc.
Kinyon Construction, Inc. recently introduced the Pipe Inspection Cart, a motorized scaffold inspection device designed to target otherwise inaccessible areas of overland stanchioned pipe systems. It is designed to replace the need for several types of equipment such as cherry pickers, spider-baskets, and cranes to reach different elevations of pipe for coatings, inspection, and maintenance work. Instead, a small crew can assemble the PIC on location and use it to traverse elevated sections of pipe at any height. The scaffold is engineered to safely carry a two-man crew and all necessary equipment for coating and other repairs on a 34-inch diameter natural gas pipeline. It operates under the power of a 120 volt energy source, and moves back and forth over a pipeline using a dead-man button operating system for optimal safety. http://pipeinspectioncart.com/WP.

Honeywell
Introduced this year, Honeywell’s UOP Separex Flux+ membrane elements increase natural gas processing capacity by removing contaminants such as acid gas and water from natural gas. These contaminants must be removed before natural gas can be transported by pipeline for commercial use. In addition to increasing the amount of gas that can be processed in the system, the membrane element removes more carbon dioxide per unit membrane area than other technology. Designed with a compact footprint, the units can be installed onshore or offshore. The company says they require little by way of utilities and provide for short start-up times and high turndown capabilities. www.uop.com, www.honeywell.com.

Clock Spring
 width=
When using directional drilling and microtunnelling techniques for road, rail and other underground pipeline right-of-way crossing applications, the Clock Spring fully bonded composite system may be used for casing spacer applications to prevent damage and wear to the main pipeline and coating when installed (pushed/pulled) into the casing and to centralize the pipe once in the casing. Derived from the transmission pipeline corrosion repair system, the casing spacer features the same full cured 8-layer high-strength composite laminate coil as that system. The coil is wound onto the pipe and bonded in place using a high-lap shear strength adhesive. Once installed, the coil typically provides one half-inch stand-off spacing distance from the pipe circumference. Additional layers can be applied if a greater stand-off distance is required. The coil surface is smooth and provides a low coefficient of friction between the composite surface and carrier pipe. The system is available to suit pipe diameters from 4” to 56” with coil widths available up to 12”. sales@clockspringuk.com, www.clockspring.com.

International Association of Oil & Gas Producers
OGP, the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers, has published new guidance to help companies aid one another in case of a major offshore incident. The 20-page document, Mutual Aid In Large-Scale Offshore Incidents – A Framework For The Oil And Gas Industry, includes guiding principles, suggestions on initiating a mutual aid arrangement and addressing complexities associated with health, safety, security and the environment; legal and regulatory requirements; terms of contracts or licenses; and logistical and technical challenges. A section devoted to practical measures features suggestions on communications, equipment inventories, assurance processes, stakeholder dialogues and continual improvement. Based on a close examination of the typical elements of responses to large-scale incidents, the framework is built on the premise that mutual aid arrangements are best addressed at the local, regional or basin level, where resources are more likely to be quickly accessible and where operators are likely to share common technical, logistical, legal and regulatory environments. It provides a process for scoping and developing mutual aid arrangements and identifies some of the issues and challenges involved. These include the involvement of third parties to whom essential resources might be under contract. www.ogp.org.uk.
