WBI Energy Plans $700 Million, 400-mile Pipeline

WBI Energy, Inc., a subsidiary of MDU Resources Group, Inc., has proposed a natural gas pipeline stretching from far western North Dakota to western Minnesota where it would connect with Viking Gas Transmission Company’s pipeline system.

The pipeline is designed to transport 400 MMcf/d of natural gas and could be expanded to more than 500 MMcf/d. The project investment is estimated between $650-700 million. The route would stretch 20 miles southwest of Williston to an interconnection with Viking Gas Transmission northeast of Moorhead. Most of the 400-mile system would be comprised of 24-inch pipeline and would include two compressor stations.

Long-term capacity commitments will be sought during an open season expected in late summer. Following receipt of capacity commitments, permits and regulatory approvals, construction would start in early 2016 with completion expected by late 2016.
