FERC Issues Final EIS For Texas Eastern/Algonquin Pipeline Expansion Project

Spectra Energy cleared an environmental stumbling block in the expansion of its existing Texas Eastern Transmission and Algonquin Gas Transmission pipeline systems to deliver natural gas supplies to the New Jersey and New York area.

The staff of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a final environmental impact statement (EIS) for the proposed project’s facilities to be located in the boroughs of Staten Island and Manhattan; Hudson, Union, Bergen, and Morris counties, NJ; and Middlesex County, CT, and would include: construction and operation of 20 miles of new and replacement 42- and 30-inch pipeline; abandonment of nine miles of existing pipeline; construction and operation of seven new metering and regulating (M&R) stations; modification of four existing compressor stations and 1 existing M&R station; and various ancillary facilities including taps, valves, launchers, and receivers.
The pipeline would be capable of transporting up to 800 MMscf/d to the region and is targeted to be in service in late 2013.
