Bunde-Etzel Pipeline Contracts Awarded

October 2010 Vol. 237 No. 10

Ghizzoni SpA is charged with construction of the Bunde-Etzel Gas Pipeline for BEP, a joint venture made up of companies from the energy industry in Europe: Deutsche BP Aktiengesellschaft, EDF Gas Deutschland GmbH, IVG Caverns GmbH, OMV Gas & Power GmbH, DONG Energy A/S, EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, GAZPROM Germania GmbH.

The project involves the construction of a 48-inch pipeline from gas storage facilities which are under development in Etzel, Germany to the natural gas grid at Oude Statenzijl in The Netherlands. This pipeline, covering a distance of 60 km, will become a major source to supply natural gas into Western Europe.

The pipeline management system will be provided by GL Noble Denton which will use the Stoner Pipeline Simulator (SPS) to provide advanced functionality for the safe and efficient operation of the pipeline. This includes real-time leak detection and location, as well as predictive applications to support pipeline operations. The system will be integrated with Telvent’s SCADA system to provide a complete control system that will optimize security and operations as well as ensure reliable supply.
The pipeline project is scheduled for completion in April 2011.
