Consumers Energy Completes $15 Million Natural Gas System Upgrade

While winter may seem far away, a project completed by Consumers Energy will help ensure reliable natural gas service for customers in the greater Lansing, MI area.

Consumers Energy has completed work on a $15 million upgrade to its natural gas system north of Lansing. The upgrade includes installation of a 2.1 mile 20-inch natural gas line to help ensure system reliability and handle peak loads. Work included installation of a system station near Dewitt and redesigned Lansing and Dewitt city gate stations which monitor gas-line pressure.

“This addition to our system will facilitate continued safe and cost-effective gas deliveries to our customers when they need it most, and will accommodate future economic growth in the area,” said Kevin Daly, executive director of gas management services for Consumers Energy.

The project is part of Consumers Energy’s “Growing Forward” program, which calls for investing more than $6 billion in its utility operations over the next five years.
