Colonial Pipeline Delays Major Expansion In Southeast

Economic conditions that have negatively affected consumer demand caused Colonial Pipeline to delay its proposed 460-mile Project ExCEL pipeline expansion that was to be built alongside the company’s existing mainlines from Louisiana to Georgia.

The system expansion, announced in 2006, was designed to relieve a capacity constraint on the Colonial system, which supplies gasoline and other fuels produced at Gulf Coast refineries to customers and markets across the southern and eastern United States.

“The urgency of doing this now is not as clear as it was in 2006,” said Tim Felt, Colonial’s president/CEO. “We believe the economy will rebound and we will be ready to resume full-scale work on what we trust will be an important and valuable upgrade of the U.S. infrastructure.”
